Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz, was in court again Wednesday, facing charges of allegedly attacking a prison guard.
The 20-year-old, who was charged with killing 17 people in Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February, was in bond court Wednesday afternoon for allegedly attacking a deputy in a Broward County jail, the Sun Sentinel reported.
Deputies allege Cruz flipped the bird at a detention deputy before attacking him, wrestling him to the ground and attempting to take his stun gun.
According to the Sun Sentinel
According to the incident report, Beltran was in a dayroom area guarding Cruz about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
When Beltran asked Cruz not to drag his sandals as he walked around the room, Cruz gave him the middle finger. Beltran stood up and Cruz rushed him.
Cruz punched Beltran in the face and they both fell to the ground, the report said. They struggled until Cruz was on top of Beltran, repeatedly punching the deputy’s head with his right hand, the report said.
Another detention staffer witnessed the fight and called for backup.
Cruz allegedly removed the deputy’s Taser from his holster and discharged the device as the two wrestled. No one was shocked by the stun gun.
According to the incident report obtained by Sun Sentinel, “Beltran regained control of the Taser and punched Cruz in the face. After that, Cruz retreated and sat down in a dayroom chair, the report said.”
Beltran will likely not be facing any disciplinary action, according to Broward County jail officials and officers’ union representatives, as another prison guard witnessed the attack and surveillance video shows that it was Cruz who attacked the guard.
Five deputies escorted Cruz, with “head bowed and fully shackled” to Wednesday’s bond hearing, the Sun Sentinel reported.
In addition to the 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder he is already facing, Cruz now can add several more The Miami Herald reported:
“Battery on a law enforcement officer; aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; and use of a chemical or electric weapon against an officer.”
