The main conflict that our nation faces today has little to do with terrorism or with outright violence, but it will determine the future of America just the same.
I’m speaking of course about the fight over the First Amendment, and, more specifically, the coming confrontation between the absolute truth and the gatekeepers who choose to mold and mangle that truth to appease the advertisers who bankroll them.
You see, the mainstream media does not choose what they say. They are beholden to the television advertisers who buy limited time on their networks in order to get their name and product in front of the American people. These advertisers are often the sole source of revenue for a network such as CNN, (the mugs in the gift shop notwithstanding), and they hold sway over the content of the networks because of it.

The same shortcoming don’t apply to We The People and our free press of the internet, where complex algorithms help sort with advertisers are shown to you. This process is adaptable, adept, and truly relies on the free market to decide what we are peddled on a daily basis. No single source of advertising can gut a news source out here, in the emerging frontiers of information.
The dinosaur media of television is simply awaiting their comet, at this point, relying on their influence over the internet’s information gatekeepers to stay afloat.
The same issue of gatekeeping comes into play with the Southern Poverty Law Center – a left leaning think tank whose major claim to fame is their “authority” to declare other organizations “hate groups”, based on whatever qualifiers they choose. This utter nonsense has been railed against in the past, but now Attorney General Jeff Sessions is baring his teeth in their direction as well.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions criticized the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) by name Wednesday as he spoke at the Religious Liberty Summit of the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the successful Christian public interest law firm the SPLC designates a “hate group.”
The ADF earned its SPLC “Anti-LGBT Hate Group” designation after a string of Supreme Court victories that enraged the far left, most notably the successful defense of a Christian Colorado baker who refused to adorn a cake with phrases condoning homosexual marriage in this year’s Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission.
His address to the ADF summit included Sessions first public mention of the SPLC since Fox News’s Tucker Carlson revealed the group’s ongoing, but ill-defined, relationship with the FBI last month. Just days after that report, on July 30, the attorney general seemed to make oblique reference to the SPLC as he announced his new DOJ Religious Liberty Task Force. “We have gotten to the point where … one group can actively target religious groups by labeling them a “hate group” on the basis of their sincerely held religious beliefs,” Sessions said.
Freedom is binary, people. You either have it, or you don’t, and when the SPLC arbitrarily decides that they don’t like you, you lose at least some of that liberty.
